MIAMI LAKES, Fla. -- Miami-Dade County police arrested a student Monday night who attends a South Florida high school where a so-called hit list was found earlier this month, and officials said they found some disturbing items in the teen's bag.
Miami-Dade County public school officials said the arrest came after the student, a 15-year-old sophomore, vandalized a school bathroom Monday. A custodian reportedly spotted the boy running from the bathroom and was able to take him to the principal's office.
School police searched his bag and said they found the following:
A list with 14 student names on it Three plastic knife covers and a knife Two pieces of charcoal soaked with flammable liquid A lighter A jar
"This is getting pretty serious, and it's ridiculous," said one student when she heard about the arrest.
School officials will not say if the arrested teen is responsible for the alleged "hit list" found at the school.
He has been charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, 14 counts of threat to harm and attempted arson.
The student has not been suspended, but likely will be. It's also expected that officials will recommend expelling him.
'Hit List' DetailsThe list was found on a bathroom floor at the school Feb. 1, according to investigators. The list contained 12 names, and also listed dates when threats would be carried out, including last Wednesday and Valentine's Day. All those listed have been notified and interviewed, according to police.
Officials said that the note contained derogatory comments that they described as "hateful." For other details
