FLORIDA CITY, Fla. -- Florida City police are looking for a woman they say left her children with a man she'd met only the night before.

The man told police that he met the woman at a strip mall Sunday afternoon. He says she told him they were homeless and she didn't want to spend the night in a car.

The man said he took the woman and the two children to his home and allowed them to spend the night.

He told police that when he woke up Monday morning, he heard the baby crying. When he went to investigate, he found the baby and the other child, but the woman and his television and VCR were gone.

The children are in police custody and will be transferred to the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Police said they are looking for a woman named Robin Johnson in connection with the case.
