A grand jury has indicted the caregiver of missing girl Rilya Wilson for first-degree murder.

Geralyn Graham
Geralyn Graham was Rilya Wilson's caretaker at the time of the child's disappearance.
Geralyn Graham was also charged with kidnapping and three counts of aggravated assault.

Rilya disappeared in 2000 when she was 4 years old.

Pamela Graham, Rilya's caregiver, told police she came home from work in December 2000 and found Rilya gone. She claimed that her roommate Geralyn Graham told her that the child was fine, but that they weren't going to see her anymore.

Pamela Graham says that Geralyn then made up the story about a Department of Children and Families worker coming to pick up Rilya. Friends said Geralyn also told some people Rilya had been adopted by a woman.

It took more than a year for officials to realize the child was missing, even though DCF workers had been supposed to be checking on Rilya all during those months.

The girl has never been found.

Prosecutors say the investigation uncovered sufficient evidence indicating that by the time the disappearance had been discovered, Rilya was already dead.

State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle says that the grand jury determined that Rilya's disappearance was the result of an act of violence.

Rilya was born Sept. 29, 1996, to a homeless cocaine addict. The name her mother gave the child was an acronym for "Remember I love you always." Rilya was taken into state custody when she was less than 2 months old.
