Broken Antenna Leads To Shutdown Of 2 Radio Stations

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Two radio stations were shut down and the Federal Communications Commission and police are investigating the allegedly illegal operations.
The stations were discovered when a Hollywood resident reported that a large radio antenna had fallen over on top of the Wachovia bank building on the corner of Tyler and 19th Avenue.Hollywood police said that one station was playing Caribbean music and the other was the "Voice of Peace for Israel." Investigators said that the stations were being run remotely by a computer that operated radio station master control set-up located on the sixth floor of the bank building. Investigators don't yet know where the remote computer is located.Investigators said the 40-foot tower was rigged up with a base made from a bucket and cement.According to a fire investigator, the building supervisor said he had no idea who was renting the office space or how this equipment got on top of the roof.
