MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- A small plane crashed into a deer on the runway of a far-flung Miami-Dade County airport this morning.
The twin-prop plane sustained serious damage. The left prop appeared to be destroyed and pieces of flying propeller penetrated the fuselage. A pilot and copilot on board the plane were not hurt.
The deer died. Nothing more than a red smear on the runway was left.
The Dade Collier Jet Port, which is just a stretch of tarmac in the Florida Everglades, serves as a touch-and-go landing pad for training pilots. It is about 36 miles west of Krome Avenue just north of Tamiami Trail.
