EXCLUSIVE: Questions Raised By School Board Child Porn Allegations
Man Accused In Investigation On Job For Week After Raid
POSTED: Friday, April 8, 2005
Questions are being asked about why it took so long to remove a Miami-Dade County School Board employee who is under investigation for child pornography.
The FBI confiscated the employee's computer last Thursday. That same day, neighbors say they saw agents raiding the man's home. And a week later, Anthony Dixon, a network computer analyst for the school board, was still on the job.
Finally, Thursday afternoon, just hours after Local 10 went to the school board's Information Technology Building where Dixon works to ask questions, Dixon was put on leave.
Joe Garcia, the district's spokesman, said, "Really, there was a breakdown in what is our standard operating procedure."
That's not all that may have broken down. Sources have confirmed that some past and present administrators had been told about child pornography at ITS at least three years ago. But it wasn't until an inspector general was hired and heard the allegations that an investigation began.
Dr. Marta Perez, a school board member, said, "It's a very good thing that this has been identified by our inspector general and that the FBI will get involved. Hopefully we will be able to save many innocent children from predators."
So Local 10 wondered why haven't there been any arrests. Federal sources tell Local 10 that the U.S. Attorney's Office has declined to prosecute because there was no interstate trafficking.
Local 10 has been told the matter has been referred to the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.
