Rare Dogs Found Sick, Starving

Woman Accused Of Animal Cruelty

POSTED: Monday, May 23, 2005

A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after officers seized five exotic breed dogs from her home that they say were near death from neglect.

The dogs, that should weigh more than 100 pounds, weighed as little as 30.
Officials say the five Argentine Dogo dogs were malnourished and diseased. The dogs that normally weigh about 110 pounds weighed as little 30 pounds. The dogs are covered with mange and sores and have intestinal parasites. One of them was too weak to stand.

Four female and one male dog were removed from the Lisa Anderson's Homestead home six days ago. The dogs were cared for at the Animal Emergency clinic on Sterling Road in Cooper City until an animal rescue group agreed to provide them foster care.

Anderson is charged with animal cruelty. She said the dogs were her boyfriend's, and then she refused to comment on the condition of the animals

Anderson family members later told Local 10 off-camera that they didn't have enough money to take care of the dogs and that the boyfriend allegedly said he would kill them if they got rid of the dogs.

If you are interested in helping with the expenses involved in helping the dogs recover, you can contact Boxer Friends to make a donation.

The care for each dog's recuperation is expected to cost as much as $2,000.

Once the dogs recover, they will be put up for adoption.
