BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A Broward circuit judge ruled today that the county's four pari-mutuels can install slot machines by July 1 if the state fails to take any action.
Circuit Judge Leroy Moe ruled that if a legislative body, either the state Legislature or Broward County Commission, doesn't have some regulations governing slot machines in place by July 1, he will establish the rules. The state can appeal Moe's decision.
In March, Broward County voters approved slots at the tracks in Pompano Beach, Hollywood and Hallandale Beach, and the jai-alai fronton in Dania Beach.
