WPLG Editorial: Judge's Decision A Welcome Move On Slots Issue 6/25/05
POSTED: Monday, June 27, 2005
A Broward judge made a decision this week that cut through the Tallahassee muck in a hurry.
He acknowledged what we already knew -- that voters had said "yes" to Las Vegas style slots coming to Broward pari-mutuels by July 1. But Judge Leroy Moe also untangled the legislative tie up. He said if Tallahassee lawmakers weren't going figure out how to regulate the new machines, he would write the rules himself.
Well, there's a revolutionary idea. The judge wants to make sure the voters get what they voted for and on time. State lawmakers have been dragging their heels.
Gov. Bush is an anti gambling guy, and apparently, his anti gambling sentiment is shared by the lawmakers upstate.
Thank goodness, Judge Moe has the guts to cut through all the red tape.
That's our take on things. Let us know what you think.
