The fifth tropical depression of the season formed in the Atlantic Ocean Sunday night.

Don Noe said that the depression is poorly organized, but it is likely to pull itself together and gain strength as it heads west.

At 5 p.m. Monday, the depression was in the central Atlantic, about 2,550 miles east-southeast of Miami. The Local 10 storm tracking team says that the depression could be a tropical storm by Tuesday and a Category 1 hurricane by Thursday afternoon.

The depression has maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Tropical storms sustain winds of at least 39 mph.

If the depression reaches storm status, it will be named Emily.
