MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- A 3-year-old boy shot his 10-year-old sister in the torso, critically injuring her, with a gun he found Monday evening inside their Miami Gardens home, police said.
According to Miami-Dade police, the children and their mother were outside their house on 208th Street near Northwest 36th Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. showing a vehicle to a prospective buyer.
The boy went inside the house and found the small caliber gun, police said.
He came back outside with the gun and fired, striking his sister in the chest, police said.
The girl was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Police think the gun might belong to the mother's live-in boyfriend. It will be up to the state attorney's office to decide whether he will face any charges.
