Mother Arrested After 3-Year-Old Shoots 10-Year-Old

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- A Miami Gardens woman was arrested this morning and charged with child neglect after her 3-year-old son shot her 10-year-old daughter Monday afternoon.Sherice Latimore, 27, left a small-caliber handgun on a sofa in her home along the 20000 block of Northwest 37th Avenue, police said. Her 3-year-old son got a hold of the weapon and shot his sister in the chest. The 10-year-old girl is in serious condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.Police said Latimore was outside her home Monday afternoon with her children showing her car to a prospective buyer. At some point the 3-year-old went back into the house, got the gun and came outside and shot his sister.Police have not released the names of the children because state law prohibits it in cases dealing with child neglect.
