MIAMI -- Police say a woman who went looking for her daughter who did not come home Tuesday morning found the accident scene where her daughter was killed when car had plunged into a canal.

The car left the highway at Southwest 137th Avenue near 104th Street in Kendall.
Miami-Dade Fire rescue divers rushed the woman, identified as 21-year-old Shayra Castro, to Baptist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are investigating and said that the cause of the crash was not immediately clear. Investigators said it appeared that Castro had lost control of the car and had gone into a spin and went across four lanes of the highway and over a sidewalk before plunging into the canal, but they had not been able to determine why.
A newspaper deliveryman noticed the car floating in the canal just after 5 a.m. By the time rescuers got there moments later, the Centra submerged. Castro's body was found inside the car in the back seat.
Castro was less than two miles from the home where she lived with her parents when the accident happened.
Her mother went looking for her when she didn't come home. When she saw all the rescue vehicles by the canal, she stopped, and she was then told of her daughter's death.
