College Police Officer Denies Sexually Assaulting 18-Year-Old

Case Based On Testimony, Little Physical Evidence

A college police officer took the stand Thursday, and turned a sexual assault trial into a case of "he said, she said."

An 18-year-old woman said that Frederick Eugene Currie, 35, sexually assaulted her during the check of a vehicle on July 8, 2005. Miami-Dade Police Department's Sexual Crimes Bureau investigated the alleged assault. Currie was arrested on July 20. He is charged with sexual battery and battery.

Currie said Thursday he committed no sexual violations, and didn't even search the woman. He said while he was on-duty as a Florida International University police officer, he came across the girl and her boyfriend half-dressed in a parked car.

The girl said he searched her out of the sight of her boyfriend, and the search turned into a sexual assault.

Currie said the girl was wearing so little clothing that there was no need to "search her for anything." He said he gave them some advice, and that was all that happened, so little that he didn't log it in his report book.

He said he told them they should be "doing this somewhere else… not in this kind of environment."

So far there has been little physical evidence to support the girl's claims.

Testimony will continue Friday.
