Local 10 Care Force

In April 2001, Local 10 News initiated a station-wide community outreach effort entitled "Magnum's Force." In six years, close to five million dollars in goods and services have been donated through Magnum’s Force. Now Local 10 embarks on "Care Force."

Here’s how it works: We profile an individual, facing a crisis, in a “Care Force,” news segment. At the end of the segment, we ask our viewers to help fulfill the need by calling our 24-hour Care Force hotline. Care Force then matches those who offered to help with the person needing the help…immediately resolving the need. The resolution or “happy ending” is then featured in another news story. Since April 2001, we have changed the lives of more than 19,000 people in need. Here are some examples of the numerous needs we’ve helped fulfill.

  • Donated more than a dozen cars and handicap accessible vans.
  • Rebuilt and Renovated hundreds of homes.
  • Sight-saving cataract surgery for a local Bishop.
  • Ear surgery for a nearly deaf single mom.
  • Gastric Bypass Surgery for a man weighing more than 700 pounds. Thanks to the life-saving procedure, this South Florida man has lost more than 400 pounds.
  • A brand new, custom built home for a single mom caring for five medically compromised family members.

The Care Force Hotline is kindly operated by Switchboard of Miami, a nonprofit organization offering comprehensive crisis counseling, suicide prevention, and information and referral services.

The Care Force Hotline numbers are:
    305-372-9911, Miami-Dade
    305-838-8188, Broward

Care Force has also established a fund to benefit South Florida families in need. If you'd like to make a donation, please refer to the following instructions:
