Does The Wrinkle Cure Diet Work?

One Dermatologist Says It Does

Want the antidote for aging skin? Some say that the answer is as close as the nearest grocery store.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone believes that it is possible to get rid of wrinkles with his wrinkle cure diet.

"This diet always works and people ask, 'Well, what if I don't see a difference?' ... The only way you won't see a difference is if you're cheating," Perricone said.

With the help of two volunteers, Channel 10 put Perricone's 3-day, quick-fix plan to the test.

"As the years go on, I notice wrinkles lines in my face, lines in my forehand and you like to reduce that as much as possible," Susan Lazarus, who tried the diet, said.

For three days, Lazarus and Ana Valladares followed a simple, but strict, eating plan. It includes a minimum of ten glasses of water a day, but no other drinks ? meaning no coffee, no alcohol or juice.

The diet allows for unlimited amounts of non-starchy fruits and vegetables. And for protein, plenty of egg whites and salmon are allowed, cooked in olive oil only.

South Florida dermatologist Stuart Sobel was intrigued by the diet, but skeptical.

"I think it's a good healthy diet and in that sense good for your skin, but correcting wrinkles? Well, we'll see," Sobel said.

Three days later, Lazarus and Valladares said that they both lost weight on the diet, but they said that their skin didn't seem to be affected by it.

"There was really nothing that I could definitively say in terms of the wrinkles, maybe the softness, it would have to be so subtle that i wouldn't notice," Lazarus said.

"I don't see a difference to be honest, although, one of my friends says my skin does look a little better, but I don't see much of a difference in my skin," Valladares said.

Even so, both women said that it was certainly worth trying and they're still firm believers that you are what you eat.

Health experts do agree that food affects your overall health, including the health of your skin. They also believe that getting plenty of antioxidants can only help, not hurt, your body and perhaps in the long run keep you feeling and looking younger.
