UPDATED: 3:18 pm EDT April 25, 2006

A dachshund had a run-in with a poisonous snake that left the pet with a fang embedded in its head.

The dog was bitten over the weekend in Broward County, possibly by a water moccasin. The dachshund is being treated at the Cooper City Animal Clinic.

The veterinarian said the dog is being treated with antivenin that has expired for human use, but is still effective. The vet said that expired antivenin is often used to treat pets.

The dog is expected to make a full recovery.

The owners of the dachshund were not available for comment.
