Police: NBA Star Caught On Camera Shoplifting In Miami Beach

Juwan Howard Not Yet Charged In Alleged Theft

POSTED: Thursday, May 11, 2006

Police say that an NBA player who made nearly $6 million last year was caught on a surveillance camera stealing a pair of sunglasses from a Miami Beach store.

Juwan Howard, who plays for the Houston Rockets, was shopping at Eye Q on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach over the weekend. The store clerk said that when his back was turned, Howard took a pair of $1,600 Cartier sunglasses.

Miami Beach police said that when they reviewed the surveillance tape, Howard could be seen pocketing the sunglasses when the clerk's eyes were averted.

Howard, who owns two South Florida homes, one on Brickell Avenue and one on Old Cutler Road, was paid more than $5.9 million during the past season, according to the NBA. His career contracts since 1994 total more than $100 million.

Howard has not yet been charged in the incident.
