MIAMI -- South Florida saw more boating accidents than any other region in the state last year, according to a report released by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Four of the top five most accident-prone counties are located in South Florida. Monroe County, which is home to all of the Florida Keys, led the way in 2005 with the number of accidents at 120. Palm Beach County was second with 51 accidents, Miami-Dade County was third with 46 and Broward County was fourth with 39.
Rounding out the top five was Pinellas County with 35 boating accidents.
Although there were fewer accidents on Florida's waterways in 2005 than the previous year, the number of fatal accidents increased by 15 percent. There was also an increase in the number of vessels from 2004 to 2005, according to the report.
