BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Two men have been charged with setting up a pit bull fight.
A BSO deputy said he was on routine patrol near Charles Drew Elementary School on Sunday when he saw a crowd of people gathered in a circle. He said that when he got closer, he realized the crowd was watching a pit bull fight, and no one was making an effort to stop it.
The deputy said the spectators took off when they spotted him, but he was able to speak to a juvenile at the scene who gave him the names of the two men he said were responsible for arranging the fight.
On Thursday, police arrested Brandon McNair near his home. They said the other man, Tommy Neloms, was already in jail. He was arrested Tuesday on unrelated drug charges.
McNair and Neloms are charged with fighting/baiting animals and cruelty to animals. They have both denied being involved with the dogfight.
The dogs are being cared for at the Coral Springs Animal Hospital.
