MIAMI -- A disorganized wave that is moving west across the Caribbean and into South Florida is likely to increase rain over the weekend, but it should clear out before the Fourth of July celebrations begin.
Friday, cloudiness and showers extended from the southeastern Bahamas northeastward into the Atlantic Ocean for several hundred miles.
Upper-level winds are strong near the Bahamas, preventing the wave from strengthening. Development of the system is not anticipated as it moves generally northwestward at about 10 to 15 mph.
There is a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday, with the chances increasing on Sunday. The forecast for Sunday calls for isolated showers and thunderstorms in the early morning, then mostly cloudy with numerous showers and thunderstorms in the late morning and afternoon.
By Monday morning, the chance of rain decreases to 20 percent, but there are still isolated showers expected.
Don Noe said that even though there will be showers around, they should be off and on, so the weekend will definitely not be a complete washout.
