Injured Kitten Gets International Support

Injured Kitten Gains Worldwide Attention

POSTED: Friday, July 7, 2006
UPDATED: 4:14 pm EDT July 7,2006

Chipper the cat, who amazingly survived a run in with a wood chipper, is struggling, but is still alive.

The cat climbed into a wood chipper for a nap on June 20, and the workers, who were unaware that the animal was in the machine, turned it on. After the workers found the injured cat, a woman who lived nearby called the 10th Life Cat Sanctuary for help.

Maury Swee, the president of the nonprofit cat sanctuary, took the cat to Dr. Salvatore Zeitlin’s animal hospital in West Palm Beach for treatment. The cat had a broken neck, broken legs and severe head injuries.

Chipper underwent a series of operations, and seemed to be on the road to recovery.

He was transferred to the sanctuary. Friday morning, Chipper began having seizures, and when a vet checked him, he found the cat unconscious.

By early afternoon, the tough kitty had regained consciousness and was actually up and eating.

Sympathy for the little cat has come from all over the world. Swee said that more than 100 people have asked to adopt Chipper, and the sanctuary has received more than 800 e-mails asking about the cat.

Swee said the results of tests done on Chipper Friday were all good, and they are still hoping that he will make a recovery.
