MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- Police spent much of Wednesday trying to persuade a man who threatened to kill himself to come out of his home.
According to Miami-Dade police, the man's mother called authorities and said that her bipolar son was off his medication and threatening to kill himself. Police arrived and were able to safely remove the mother and a child from the home on Northwest 1st Avenue, but the man remained holed up inside.
Police tried to speak with him throughout the morning before he eventually surrendered.
"He's a wonderful person, you know, very joyful, concerned," Frank Rodriguez said of his neighbor, who is in his 40s but has not been identified. "When our dog runs away, he comes and brings (the dog) home."
Authorities said the mother was visiting, but that no one else is inside the home.
Police said the man was armed and posed a danger to himself.
