MIAMI -- Police said a woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease was the victim of a home-invasion robbery Tuesday morning.
According to police, someone knocked on the door of her Coconut Grove home at 2215 Lincoln Ave. When the elderly woman answered, she was thrown to the ground and had her ring and necklace snatched from her, police said.
Her sister said the woman was alone because the regular housekeeper was running an errand at the time.
Because the woman suffers from Alzheimer's disease, she was not able to tell police who attacked her. Police went door to door asking if neighbors had seen anyone suspicious in the neighborhood.
Some neighbors told police there had been other break-ins in recent weeks.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Mercy Hospital. She was scared and shaken, but expected to be OK. Family members said that she told them that she never wants to go back to the home again.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
