A bank teller was so confused by a holdup note from a regular customer that she said she thought it was a joke and she continued with business as usual.

The teller at the Bank of America branch located at 101 S. Ocean Blvd. in Pompano said that just after 3 p.m. Thursday, a bank customer, a man who she knew as Osvaldo, showed her a note demanding money. She said she disregarded the note and continued to assist the man with information about his bank accounts.

She said the man then again flashed the note, and they had a brief discussion about it before he walked out of the bank. The teller continued assisting other customers before mentioning the incident to her supervisor, who contacted police.

By the time the supervisor was notified, the man's information was no longer on her computer screen and could not be retrieved, police said.

The suspect spoke to the teller in Spanish and is believed to be of Cuban descent. He is described as being in his 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds with brown eyes, crew-cut hair and a goatee.

BSO robbery detectives said that they have reason to believe this is the man that robbed a Fort Lauderdale bank earlier this month.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS.
