MIRAMAR, Fla. -- More than 460,000 people have voted so far this week during early voting, and the lines at Broward and Miami-Dade County polling places remained long on Friday.
In Broward County, 36,869 people have voted for the November election, and in Miami-Dade County, 60,185 people have voted so far.
The lines to vote early remained lengthy, with a wait time of three hours at one Broward County location as of noon on Friday.
Voters arrived two hours before a Miramar voting location opened Friday, some holding reading materials or folding chairs to make their wait more comfortable.
Many of the voters also held sample ballots, meaning they were familiar with the ballots and could get their votes in faster.
The Broward County supervisor of elections has added machines to the county's 17 polling places in the hope of speeding up the process.
Early voting locations are open in Miami-Dade and Broward counties through the weekend and throughout next week. Visit the
Vote 2008 page for information on locations, hours and more.
The Miami-Dade state attorney has created a new task force to ensure that things go smoothly at the polls. Nine Democrats also have written a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist and Secretary of State Kurt Browning to have the early voting days extended.
