Florida Gov. Sends Callers To Phone Sex Line

Governor's Office Says Script Crist Read From Was Wrong

UPDATED: 4:50 pm EST December 4,2009

Florida parents calling for information about children's health insurance program were mistakenly directed to a toll-free sex line by Gov. Charlie Crist, Jacksonville television station WJXT reported.

People calling the governor's office heard an on-hold recording of Crist promoting the toll-free Florida KidCare line. Except two numbers were transposed.

"You can apply at www.flkidcare.org or by calling (number)," the recording says.

But the number the governor gave had nothing to do with KidCare. It sent callers to a recording that says, "Hey there, sexy guy. Welcome to an exciting new way to go live one on one with hot (expletive) girls waiting right now to talk to you."

The governor's office said callers have been hearing the wrong number for at least two months.

"He read it right, the script was wrong," said Sterling Ivey, a spokesman for Crist, in a phone interview. "We had transposed the numbers in drafting the script in an error."

The governor's office said it has no idea how many people may have called the sex line.

Officials said they took the message down the minute they found out about the problem.

"It is strange," Ivey said. "There was no malice intent from the governor's office. No one had any clue that the incorrect information was as bad as it is."
