MIAMI -- Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly five years.
According to documents filed in Miami court Tuesday, the marriage between Shaq and Shaunie O'Neal is irretrievably broken.
In the petition, Shaq claims that Shaunie has been "secretive about her financial assets" and he is demanding that she give an accurate account of money, stocks, bonds and other assets she acquired during their marriage.
The couple has four children together and live in a nearly $20 million home on exclusive Star Island. It has been up for sale since January.
They were married in Beverly Hills in 2002 while Shaq was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. They have a confidential prenuptial agreement.
The Heat center makes $20 million a year and has three years left on a five-year contract worth $100 million.
According to court documents, Shaunie should be given primary custody of the children, while Shaq should get liberal visitation rights.
A few years ago, former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant told detectives in his Colorado rape investigation that he wished he had handled things like Shaq did. He told detectives Shaq cheated on his wife numerous times and paid them as much as $1 million to keep it quiet.
The O'Neals could not be reached for comment.
