HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Jimmie Johnson is on the verge of making NASCAR history this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
If Johnson finishes 36th or better in the Ford 400 Sunday (on WPLG/Local 10 and ABC), he'll win the Sprint Cup title and join Cale Yarborough as the only drivers in NASCAR history to win three straight cup titles.
Johnson is confident in his chances but nervous. "Anything can happen. It's like football. You have to play the game. You have to run the race," he said.
Carl Edwards is the only driver who can catch him.
The race is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Sunday and it caps a full weekend of racing in Homestead.
