D'Antoni Leads Knicks In Return To Phoenix

(Sports Network) - The New York Knicks continue a five-game road swing Monday when they arrive in the Valley of the Sun for Mike D'Antoni's homecoming.

The Knicks coach left the Phoenix Suns after last season and accepted a four- year, $24 million dollar offer to coach New York. Phoenix averaged a gaudy 58 wins in the last four seasons under D'Antoni's "seven-seconds-or-less," run- and-gun offense.

After Phoenix fell to San Antonio in the first round of the playoffs last spring, DAntoni was given permission by general manager Steve Kerr to pursue other options and eventually released from the final two years of his contract.

The Knicks quickly hired D'Antoni in May to rebuild a team decimated by Isiah Thomas' failed stint in both the front office and on the bench.

On the court, the Knicks improved to 2-1 on their trek Saturday when Al Harrington scored 33 points, and New York won back-to-back games for the first time in nearly a month with a 114-90 blowout of the Sacramento Kings.

Nate Robinson had 19 points, and David Lee powered his way to 17 points and 19 rebounds for New York. It's the first two-game win streak for the Knicks since beating Memphis and Oklahoma City on November 12 and 14, respectively.

New York, which is 4-8 away from Madison Square Garden this season, will finish its trip on Tuesday in Hollywood against the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Lakers.

Phoenix, meanwhile, won for the third time in four games last Friday when Grant Hill's reverse layup with 2.7 seconds left gave the Suns a 113-112 triumph over the Orlando Magic at US Airways Center.

Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire each notched 21 points, with Nash handing out 10 assists and Stoudemire grabbing 14 boards for the Suns, who have won three of their last four following a four-game slide and improved to 7-5 at home. Hill finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Two days before its last contest, the team acquired shooting guard Jason Richardson, forward Jared Dudley and a 2010 second-round draft choice from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for shooting guard Raja Bell, forward Boris Diaw and rookie point guard Sean Singletary.

The Suns had their new acquisitions in action Friday as Richardson equaled his teammates with 21 points. Dudley was scoreless in limited action. Center Shaquille O'Neal, however, was absent for a second straight game while attending to the death of his great-grandmother. O'Neal is expected to return to the lineup tonight.

The Suns swept the home-and-home season series between the two clubs last season and have won four straight overall and eight of their past nine games with the Knicks.
