MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Former football star Warren Sapp has been taken off the air while the NFL Network reviews a domestic battery allegation in Miami Beach.
In a statement to Local 10, NFL Network spokesman Dennis Johnson said, "We have been made aware of the arrest of Warren Sapp by the Miami Beach Police Department. In light of these circumstances, he will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter."
Police said in a statement Saturday that Sapp has been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery. An arrest affidavit detailed how the victim, allegedly Sapp's girlfriend of two years, said she was choked and thrown off a couch inside the Shore Club.
Sapp will spend Saturday night behind bars at the Turner Gilford Knight Correctional Facility in West Miami-Dade before facing a judge on Sunday morning.
The former defensive tackle played for the University of Miami, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders.
The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts meet in Sunday's Super Bowl.
