DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers may still play their scheduled game Sunday, but the start time will be pushed back to 8:30 p.m. ET because of Hurricane Jeanne.
The storm is bearing down on Florida's east coast and is expected to make landfall Saturday night into Sunday morning.
The game was originally slated to start at 1 p.m., but Saturday afternoon league and Dolphin officials decided to postpone it and early in the evening made tentative plans to play it Sunday night.
"We all intend to reassess the situation following the aftermath of the storm [Sunday] morning, and make a final decision at that point," said Dolphins president Eddie Jones in a statement late Saturday. "Our first consideration will be public safety issues resulting from the storm, and that concern will be the priority in determining whether the game can be played tomorrow night."
The Steelers are already in Florida, having flown in on Friday to avoid possible airport delays.
If Sunday night is not possible, the teams could also play Monday night. If not, the league may have to rearrange some schedules to fit the contest in, as each team has a different bye week. The Steelers are off October 24, while the Dolphins have November 14 off.
This is the second time the Dolphins have had a game affected by a hurricane, as the season-opener against Tennessee was pushed up a day because of Hurricane Ivan.
