Port Everglades May Have Set World Record
A Record Number Of Passengers Expected Through Port Everglades Saturday
Port Everglades was expected to break a world record Saturday with more than 52,000 passengers sailing in and out in of the port a single day.
Nine cruise ships docked at the port Saturday including the world's largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas.
"It just doesn't seem like that many ships could go in and out of one little port," said Oasis of the Sea passenger Loxie Blick.
Passengers said the world record will only make their trip more special.
"It took my wife 20 years to get me on the first one, we have been on 11 of them, it's great," said Oasis of the Sea Passenger Ron Blick.
The last world record was set on Jan. 3, 2009, when 49,234 passengers on 11 cruise ships set sail in and out of Port Everglades in a single day.
A spokesperson for the port said late Saturday they believe they exceeded their own expectations and surpassed 53,000 people.
The final number will take a few days to fully calculate.
